Using AI to Promote More Robust Online Discussions

Faculty Spotlight: Christopher Kiscaden shares how Packback’s AI promotes robust online discussions

Christopher Kiscaden used LMS discussions in his management courses but wasn’t satisfied with the quality of conversations from his students. With Packback, Kiscaden found that the system’s artificial intelligence provided quality control, leading to more robust online discussions. Now, Kiscaden can spend less time moderating online discussions and more time interacting with his students.

“I feel [Packback] is invaluable. It’s really an overall very powerful tool for me to use with having so many other things going on, but still to keep in touch with my students and gather student feedback and keep their discussions throughout the course moving on.”

“I teach Operation Management and Introduction to Management Information Sciences at the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico. We currently use Blackboard as our LMS for our school and I felt that this platform did not have a robust discussion board posting feature. So, I was approached by Packback roughly two and a half years ago to explore the product, and I’ve been doing it ever sinceā€¦ I feel the tool is invaluable with the AI module to help kind of police students [and] look at their responses.”
