Dr. Matthew Douglas shares how Packback helps his students see his course as more than a math class
Dr. Matthew Douglas teaches a math-heavy course that many students are required to take. At first, some students didn’t see how his class could apply to their majors if they weren’t going into a math-centric field. Dr. Douglas implemented Packback, and now students discuss class concepts and apply the math they’re learning to the world around them.
“I teach Intro to Operations Management. It’s a core course here at Baylor University. I’ve enjoyed implementing Packback into my class. I think one of the things Packback has provided for my class is in my attempt to focus on broader, higher-level objectives such as problem-solving, critical thinking and decision making. This has allowed me to take the Operation Management course beyond just the calculations. This course could easily be a math course. But in this light, now we’re to take the math and see how it’s applied in the real world. See how people actually use the information to make decisions in the various disciplines.”
